Discovering Vicenza’s foothills

The Pedemontana (foothill) area of Vicenza is a wide area that spreads from Vicenza to Bassano; the heart of the territory is Thiene and surroundings, a place of manufacturing and art, as well as of pleasant excursions along hillsides. The itinerary begins in Thiene, with a visit to Villa Fabris, European Centre for Heritage Crafts and Professions, and to some important craft laboratories of stone and clay processing. The second part of the day is dedicated to the visit of Andrea Palladio's architectural debut: Villa Godi Malinverni in Lugo di Vicenza, as well as the annexed museum and park.

Arrival in Thiene. Visit to Villa Fabris (European centre of training for conservation culture) and tour of the experiential pathway about  antique craftsmanship and on the preservation of cultural heritage, by observing restoration practices.

To follow, visit to traditional arts and craft shops ("bottega") that work raw materials (clay and stone), in order to discover stone history and processing.

Displacement for lunch to the restaurant "Il Torchio Antico" in Lugo di Vicenza, with a menu based on typical products of Vicenza's territory and tradition.

Visit to the complex of Villa Godi Malinverni, part of the rich artistic heritage of the Venetian Villas. Andrea Palladio built this villa in 1542; Gianbattista Zelotti, Battista del Moro and Gualtiero Padovano adorned its interiors with frescoes. Together with the other Palladian villas of the Veneto region, Villa Godi was inserted in 1996 in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The guided tour includes a visit to the park of the Palladian Villa and the fossil museum.
